Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State
Pedagogical University is one of the oldest educational establishment
in Ukraine. It was founded in 1924 as Donetsk Institute of National
Education. In 1939 Lugansk State Pedagogical Institute was named by
Taras Shevchenko. During 80 years of its existence it has prepared
more than 60000 teachers. There are a lot of distinguished scholars,
social workers and teachers awarded for their excellent contribution
to the community among them.
Today the University is one of the best in Ukraine. |

| HISTORY OF UNIVERSITY |

1 March 1921 year - the opening of regional higher educational pedagogical courses
1923 year - the opening on the basis of the pedagogical courses one of the first Higher Educational Institution in Donbass - Donetsk Institute of National Education in Lugansk.
1934 year - Donetsk Institute of National Education in Lugansk had been modified into Lugansk State Pedagogical Institute.
1939 year - Lugansk State Pedagogical Institute was named by Taras Shevchenko
1998 year –The Institute received the IV level of accreditation.
1998 year - Lugansk State Pedagogical Institute was transformed into Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State Pedagogical University.
2000 year – LSPU is recognised as the best Higher Educational Istitution in Sport Development in Ukraine (2 silver and bronse medals in the XXVII Olymic Games in Sydney).
2000 year – The Seventh International
Open Popularity Rating "Gold Furtune" announced LSPU the best
regional University in Ukraine for the outstanding contribution
to the development of Ukrainian Pedagogical Science.

Luhansk Taras Schevchenko State Pedagogical
University is a large educational and scientific complex, which includes
the Institute of Economics and Business, the Institute of Culture
and Arts, the Institute of Continuing Education, the faculties of
Foreign Languages, History, Pedagogy, Natural Science and Geography,
Ukrainian Philology, Physical Training, Preparatory Education, Rovenky
and Starobilsk affiliates, 37 departments, Lisichansk and Stakhanov
Pedagogical Colleges, the Lyceum, the Gymnasium. The Center of Innovative
teaching technologies, Institute of Hrinchenko Studies, Ukrainian-Canadian
Center "Renaissance".
There are 10 thousand University students who get their full and part
time and advanced education.
The University provides Junior Specialist's degree, Bachelor's degree, Specialist's degree, Master's degree in 50 specialities and such qualifications as: Pedagogical Education, Philology, History, Sociology, Psychology, Art and Culture, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Education and Sports, Ecology, Applied Mathematics, Management, Economics and Business, Trade, etc.
There are post-graduate courses to obtain Master's , Candidate's and Doctorate's degrees in Pedagogy in the University. There is a specialised scientific board dealing with Candidate's Thesis defence in 4 pedagogical specialities.
Moreover, the University is currently being reorganised: every year new specialities in other spheres apart from Pedagogy are opened.
This improvement provides opportunities to gain knowledge in wide
range of specialities and enhances the quality of education. Its teachers
and professors possess high level of professional skills. More then
500 teachers work at 37 departments, including 33 Doctors of Science
and associate professors and 227 Candidates of Science and develop
new teaching, research and management techniques.
Today the educational and material resources of the University include
7 educational buildings (2 Assembly and concert halls, and a gym),
5 comfortable on-campus hostels, a sports center, workshops, a vivarium,
a bio-camp, museums of Zoology, Geology, Anatomy and Archaeology,
an Astronomical observatory, botanical gardens, a park-museum of stone
sculptures; a publishing house, a library with library stock more
then 600 thousands; the information center with local computer net
and INTERNET available in the University; a consumer services center,
a sanatorium, a canteen and a cafe.
Nowadays, the University has its own publishing center and issues
scientific collection of '' Visnik of Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State
Pedagogical University'', which has been licensed by the Higher Academy
Commission of Ukraine in 4 directions ( History, Philology, Pedagogy
and Biology sciences ); the publishing of the regional scientific
and methodological journal " Osvita Donbasa " had been renovated;
"Tribuna Studenta" is local University monthly Newsletter widely spread
among students and teachers and administration staff.
Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State Pedagogical University' has always been and is still a center of education, science and culture in the region. The University cares for the presentation and nurturing of today's intellectual elite and for its flourishing tomorrow.
